Who are we?

Tondu and Aberkenfig Community Association evolved from a group of residents uniting the two communities to challenge the outline planning application  by Merthyr Mawr Estates, to build 450 dwellings on land to the west of the Maesteg Road. Now passed both planning stages, we aim to keep the developers, Llanmoor true to their assurances regarding screening etc., etc.

We still plan to challenge the lack of safe crossings on the re-alignment of the Maesteg Road at Tondu.

Since our initial meetings at the Tondu Cricket Club, back in 2016, we have worked closely with both Newcastle Higher and Ynysawdre Community Councils, our  two local Councillors, Cllr James Radcliffe and Cllr Tim Thomas, and further afield with our SM’s Huw Irannca-Davies (Ogmore) and Dr Dai Lloyd (S Wales West) and our MP, Chris Elmore. Being an association gives us official status and enables us to represent the residents on a variety of issues.

We are closely involved with both Community Councils for the Area, Newcastle Higher and Ynysawdre. Both helped financially in the early stages and they have now included the areas we represent on their list for spring flowers, additional Christmas lights and the planting of wild flowers. We are also pressing for funding for a defibrillator for the area around Pentre Felin.
