Tondu and Aberkenfig Community Association evolved from a group of residents uniting the two communities to challenge the planning application by Merthyr Mawr Estates, to build 450 dwellings on land to the west of the Maesteg Road.
Since our initial meetings at the Tondu Cricket Club, back in 2016, we have worked closely with both Newcastle Higher and Ynysawdre Community Councils, our two local Councillors, Cllr James Radcliffe and Cllr Tim Thomas, and further afield with our AMs and MP. Being an association gives us official status and enables us to represent the residents on a variety of issues.
Our efforts succeeded in getting our Community Councils to unite the whole of the Llynfi Valley against the above planning application; they have helped with our printing costs and have improved the area by providing both dog bins and additional litter bins. NHCC has also included us on its list for spring flowers and both Community Councils have included Pentre Felin and the Maesteg Road area for additional Christmas lights.
